Odell Beckham Jr. is known for wearing outrageous footwear. The seller of these Peanuts shoes has other pairs worn by New York Giants player. This pair of Nike shoes is decorated with the classic Charlie Brown zigzag on one shoe and an abstract Snoopy with Woodstock on the other. The pair of shoes was worn in November, 2015 as a tribute to Peanuts.
Once in a while, I’ll see or be offered an item similar to this. It’s a great example of a cross-over collectible. It appeals to certain football fans, as well as Peanuts collectors. Who will pay more? In cases like this, I lean towards the sports fan. This is a piece crafted for a sports player, worn by a sports player, sweated in by a sports player. The Peanuts imagery is secondary to the history with a sports player. Without a doubt this pair of Peanuts Nike shoes was worn by Odell Beckham Jr., which would have a strong appeal to a sports collector.
Now, I know nothing about NFL football. As a Peanuts collector, I think these shoes are fun and I know how much other collectors LOVE Peanuts shoes. I just had to share them! However, I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to buy these. At this price, there are a lot of other things I could buy, like original Schulz art. How much should a collector pay? It’s impossible to say! Estimates can be made based on previous shoe sales and the player’s current stats and popularity with his fans. As a totally unique item, there’s no real way to know exactly. Currently, the seller is asking twice as much for these Peanuts inspired shoes vs. regular Nike cleats worn for practices. Since I see this as sports memorabilia, not a Peanuts collectible, it’s better left to other experts.
