Snoopy is having tea with Frieda, Linus, Sally, Peppermint Patty and Schroeder! Based on the characters shown, these plates would have been part of a 33-piece Peanuts Tea Set from Chein Co. available in the late 1960’s into the early 1970’s. These plates are listed for $41 a piece. Would that make the entire set worth $1353? The original set included place settings for four children, including four plates, four saucers, four cups, four paper napkins, four each of plastic forks, knives and spoons, a teapot, cream and sugar bowls, and a tray. There was also a 45-piece set with settings for six that these plates could have been part of. Either way, there are a lot of missing pieces from this tea set! Only the plates, tray and sometimes the tea pot would have had Peanuts graphics on them. Otherwise, everything else was generic.
With all metal toys, the main condition problem for Peanuts Tea Sets is rust! Once the rust sets in, the paint may start to flake off. If a plate is rusty, which most of them are, make sure to keep the item in a dry place so it doesn’t continue to damage the piece. Finding these in very good-excellent condition after being used is rare! In this set, the plates are in decent condition considering the age. However, Frieda has a major rust spot that could be an issue. Also, examining the backs of these plates is essential! I have seen metal items that are fine on one side, but horribly rusted on the other. Get full details before committing to an item like this, especially at this price point!
How much are Peanuts Tea Set Plates worth?
As incomplete as this set is, it makes more sense to sell them separately as parts. If you have a nearly complete set, but you’re missing your Snoopy plate, this could be the answer to its completion. As separate plates, I could see them fetching $3-7, depending on condition and desirability. If you want the absolute complete Peanuts Tea Set by Chein, it would be better to exercise some patience and wait for a full set in the box to become available.
