Vintage Peanuts Snoopy Bank Plaster or Chalk ware Unusual Color Made in Japan – $60. Find it on eBay (affiliate links).
I don’t know much about this Japanese made bank. There’s only one thing that concerns a Peanuts collector like me: this Blue Snoopy Bank is unlicensed. The similarity to the popular beagle is very close. It’s easy to see why anyone would assume this is Snoopy. The blue color scheme aside, the black ears and spots on the back are probably not a coincidence. The lack of other markings to its origins may also be a way to skirt the issue of copyright and dodge lawyers. Perhaps this bank also sparked the consumer market’s need for more licensed Peanuts products in the coming years.
How much is an unlicensed, blue Snoopy Bank worth?
The color of this bank is beautiful. I usually don’t buy unlicensed pieces, but I might make an exception for this one. However, I’d be more willing to spend around $10 for this technicolor pooch. Not all collectors will find the beauty of this piece, while others may not be stopped by this mutt’s lack of pedigree. How much are you willing to part with and possibly pass up another Peanuts licensed item you crave?
