Vintage Peanuts Snoopy Lapel Pin DAD Bucket Green Hard Hat Waving Shultz Gang – $70. Find it on eBay (affiliate link).
I was ready to cry “Knock-off” on this Snoopy D.A.D. Pin. No copyright info. The weird spotted ears. The smile that’s a little too clownish. The nostril looking dots on his nose. For a knock-off, it was pretty good. The hands and feet were done pretty well. Being “Made in the USA” made me wonder if someone had a small batch made up for construction workers that were fathers. Luckily, I dug a bit deeper and got to the truth in about five minutes.
The first place to start is Google Images. A search for Snoopy Dad Pin turned up a golf ball with the same Snoopy design. The golf ball also looked like a knock-off with a redrawn Snoopy. My next search was Snoopy Golf Dad on eBay when I found an even bigger clue! It was another golf ball. But this wasn’t like the first one. It looks 90% right! Still no copyright info, but the line work on Snoopy is true Schulz. Even better, the bucket says “Dollars Against Diabetes”.
Of course, the next search was this organization I hadn’t heard of, Dollars Against Diabetes. It’s an annual campaign by the North America’s Building Trades Unions to raise money for the Diabetes Research Institute. Snoopy is their mascot and they have an online store with… this exact Snoopy D.A.D. Pin! Odd thing is, I don’t see any copyright info on any of the products on the site. Plus, there’s no prices. I have a feeling things are a little up in the air with everything that’s happening in 2020.
How much is a Snoopy D.A.D. Pin worth?
In theory, you should be able to buy one brand new it looks like! How much do brand new pins go for? $15 tops as a donation to an organization raising money for diabetes. I think your $70 would be better spent on getting a shirt, pin and set of golf balls right from the original source! If the shop is only open to organizers, maybe find out how to get involved in the next local DAD’s Day event near you.
