Weekly Reader was one of my favorite things in school! You’d get a four page catalog of books and posters, all at really cheap prices that would eat up my allowance. I’d have to try and convince my mom to let me buy posters of kittens, plus the occasional book. I don’t remember any Peanuts books, as the one featured here was before my time by just a few years.
How many years before my time is it? No, we’re not discussing my age here. We’re looking at the book cover where it says, “Be sure to watch Snoopy and his friends on their new TV show!” The Charlie Brown and Snoopy show is most likely the TV show it’s referring to, as the 30 minute one-off programs are usually described as “Specials”. 1965 is a little early to start advertising a TV show that wouldn’t start until 1983. The copyright most likely refers to the strips or the characters in the book, rather than the actual publishing date.
How much is a “Snoopy, Come Home” Book worth?
“Snoopy, Come Home” is a fairly common strip reprint book. Don’t confuse it with the movie, or the book novelization of the movie. I haven’t read “Snoopy, Come Home” for quite a few years, but based on the strip year info on Aaugh.com, I’ll bet it’s a compilation of Snoopy related strips and story lines. The Weekly Reader edition is certainly one to buy if you’re looking for a full set of Peanuts books. However, I find the earlier Holt, Reinhart and Winston book in paperback to be a much more interesting cover and higher quality paper. Plus, Weekly Reader editions may be abridged. In used condition, I’d expect to buy it for under $10. Mint condition may bring up to $20, if someone really wants it perfect. It’s hard to curl up with a good book, though, if you’re trying to keep it perfect!
