The internet killed the encyclopedia. Looking up facts is a lot easier these days and comes with less paper cuts. However, the need for the Charlie Brown’s ‘Cyclopedia set is still relevant in today’s world. Following a narrative of interesting facts without the distraction of the modern world is a welcome change.
I remember wanting Charlie Brown’s ‘Cyclopedia set when I was a kid. Not only were they fun books, but also had a matching book rack to hold them. The original edition came out in the early 1980’s, and was revived again in the 1990’s with new cover artwork. In total, there were fifteen volumes available. The original edition seems to have started with only twelve volumes, with the additional three released later. This makes finding volumes 13-15 a little harder since many parents may have finished buying these books before the additional volumes were released. The revival set is a little easier to find complete, but is not as prevalent in the secondary market as the original set.

Did every ’80’s kid (except me) have a Charlie Brown’s ‘Cyclopedia Set? With the volume of used copies on the secondary market, it seems like it! Finding these is EASY. Finding them in collectible condition can be harder. I would expect to pay around $4-6 per book for a very good to mint condition copy. Premium prices are paid for complete sets of a matching fifteen volume set. Writing, wear, stains, fading and other condition issues drops the price.
