Snoopy & Friends Doghouse – Great Pumpkin

Will the Great Pumpkin visit my tiny little pumpkin Patch? Sally and Linus are ready for the big night! Snoopy’s ready to give them a fright with his glowing pumpkin. Also ready for the fall season are Lucy and Charlie Brown, practicing their football place kicks, per usual. Plus, it’s the final push to finish Lucy’s Doctor Booth.

If you’re building this Halloween scene, be sure to give the pumpkin a test with the light before gluing it permanently. A bit of sanding on the inside to remove the extra paint goes a long way to creating a much better glow inside the pumpkin!

The Updates

While issue 79 is FINALLY here and we’re all caught up, I’m missing my gift breakfast mug. It’s like they can never, ever catch up over at DeAgostini. I mean… it’s a mug. How hard can that be?

Video Summary

It’s time for another update on my DeAgostini Snoopy and Friends Dog House build! I’m working on issues 79, 84, 85, 86, and 87, with new Peanuts comic strip scenes featuring Lucy and her psychiatry booth, Charlie Brown and his football, and the Halloween scene with Linus, Sally, and Snoopy. The booklets include building instructions, character profiles, themed articles, and Peanuts comic strips. I also take a look at the pieces included with each issue, from the electronics and lights to the paper foliage and parts for the doghouse shelf. The breakfast gift set place mat is included in this box, too, although I’m still waiting for the missing mug.

The Lucy psychiatry booth gives me some trouble during assembly, and getting her to stay in her chair proves more difficult than expected. I move on to the Charlie Brown football scene before painting and adding the tiny paper flowers and greenery for the next section. The Halloween scene with Linus and his pumpkin needs some extra work, especially when it comes to the background and the rather weak light shining through the pumpkin. The final scene features Sally and Snoopy, along with more pumpkins, grass, and paper leaves. Some of the pieces are stubborn about staying in place, but the finished scene turns out nicely despite the challenges. I also get some help from Allen, who sands away extra paint on the pumpkin light so it shines through the plastic a little better.

With the individual Peanuts scenes finished, it’s time to work on the main DeAgostini Snoopy and Friends Dog House shelf. I reapply the electronic contacts that keep falling off, track down a missing partition from issue 77, and install the shelves and other structural pieces using the instructions from the different issues. There are plenty of little details to keep track of, including the extra electronic contacts from issue 79 and the instructions in issue 80 for installing them. It’s a lot of work, but the doghouse is gradually coming together with more classic Peanuts comic strip scenes, including the Halloween and football displays. The next box will include Belle, so there’s more building ahead!
