How did these kites survive the last 60 years? Tucked away by a fellow Peanuts collector, Sandy, these glorious treasures are being unfurled to Peanuts fans everywhere. First, we have Charlie Brown with his very own red and black kite. Next, Snoopy sails into the skies as an Astronaut on his White kite with red and blue printing. These kites were produced by Determined Productions and, thankfully, not eaten by any Kite-eating trees!
These two vintage Peanuts items had been sitting unopened in a box after Roger sent them to me, so I finally took the time to see what was inside. The first item turned out to be a vintage Charlie Brown kite, complete with a small repairable break in the wood supports.
The second item was an even more exciting surprise: a rare 1969 Snoopy kite manufactured by the Hi-Flier Company and designed and distributed by Determined Productions. Seeing the original copyright date and artwork in person made this a special collectible, and it’s easy to appreciate why these vintage Peanuts kites have become such memorable pieces of Peanuts history.
I’m incredibly grateful to Roger for sending these kites, especially because I never expected to have the chance to see one of them in person. Opening the box also reminded me of fellow collector Sandy who collected these amazing pieces. It’s a wonderful look at a pair of classic Peanuts collectibles that have survived for more than 50 years.
