Deep Dive into Peanuts Toy Grand Piano
Today, I’m taking a look at one of my latest Peanuts collectibles, a vintage Peanuts toy miniature grand piano. This little piano needed a bit of care after arriving, so I started by unpacking it, testing the keys, and giving it a gentle cleaning with a microfiber cloth and water. Since the keyboard has a paper color chart on the back, I had to be especially careful while cleaning around that area. I also used a Q-tip to remove dust between the keys while making sure not to damage this vintage Peanuts toy.
While researching this Peanuts miniature grand piano, I searched through old catalogs from places like Sears and FAO Schwarz but wasn’t able to find much information about its history. What I do know is that this Mellow-Tone chime piano was made by Ely and was also available in pink. The top of the piano says copyright 1962 by United Feature Syndicate, although Peanuts copyright dates can sometimes be misleading. Other sources point to this vintage Peanuts piano being released sometime in the mid to late 1960s. I would love to know if a music book originally came with it, especially since this toy piano has a large 30-key keyboard.
The design of this Peanuts toy piano makes it a fun collectible, featuring Snoopy playing the violin while Schroeder and Lucy look on, with Charlie Brown and Linus in the background. The back of the piano shows the chimes and gives a look at the construction of this vintage 1960s toy. While there is still more I’d like to learn about this rare Peanuts collectible, it was fun exploring the details of this miniature grand piano and adding another unique piece of Peanuts memorabilia to my collection.
