1964 Peanuts Picture Prints

I love a mystery! These Peanuts prints turned up at an auction and I just had to take a closer look. They’re all dated 1964, which seems to be the year they came out, rather than the usual character year copyright. The 8″x10″ prints are on glossy, regular weight paper. The color scheme is unique. What are these Peanuts prints? A promotional giveaway? A forgotten retail item? Marketing materials? The world wants to know and I’d love if you could help me find answers.

There are twelve prints that I received, but there could be more to find. Each print has a different image. Five of the prints are baseball-themed, showing just a single character in their baseball gear. Frieda, Pigpen, Linus, Charlie Brown and Snoopy are featured in the Peanuts baseball prints. The other seven are familiar scenes from the Peanuts comic strip. Schroeder is sitting at his piano looking at a bust of Beethoven at his piano while Lucy looks on. Schroeder and Snoopy are holding signs about Beethoven’s impending birthday. Charlie Brown is strung up by a kite in a tree. Linus holds on to his blanket hanging from a clothes line. Charlie Brown is writing to his pen pal. Lucy holds a shovel near a fresh pile of dirt while Linus looks on horrified. Finally, Snoopy lays on his doghouse.

Pieces of the Mystery Found

A commenter on the video connected these images with the 1963 documentary named “A Boy Named Charlie Brown.” This 25 minute special is not to be confused with the feature film of the same name from 1969. Read more details in the comments on this Youtube video.
