When I started collecting at age 10, all I had were my Dad’s Peanuts books, my allowance and a dream of owning all the Peanuts things. These many years later, I have a better perspective on the world of Peanuts collecting and a reality check on that dream. Specialize
With so much to collect, where do you start? It’s so easy to want everything Peanuts that you come across, but it can also lead to a ballooning collection. My advice is to take a step back and take a look at what really thrills you about Peanuts. Pick a character, a Snoopy personality, an item type, a brand or a decade. Narrowing your collection can help make it easier to pass on items that don’t fit your specialization. Plus, you can become an expert in your focus and be a resource for other collectors.
Budget
There will always be something new to buy! Peanuts is still a hot commodity and new merchandise is continually being produced. A budget can help you focus on what you really want and make sure your collection is manageable long-term. However, a budget can also help you save up for the high-priced pinnacle of your collection.
It’s Your Collection
Finally, don’t let anyone tell you what to collect. You don’t have to follow trends. You don’t have to buy things labeled “must-haves.” Don’t buy into buzz and hype, just collect what you love. Read more advice in my article Starting a Peanuts Collection.
