It’s Halloween and we’re trying to make the most sincere pumpkin patch! Has the great pumpkin visited us? No! Instead, we have a 1991 A&W Root Beer Peanuts Inflatable Pumpkin to share. This giant pumpkin features Snoopy and Linus on one side, with a pumpkin face on the reverse.
The Great Pumpkin inflatable from A&W is a fun piece of Peanuts promotional memorabilia that brings together Snoopy, Linus, and the classic Halloween theme from It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. This oversized inflatable pumpkin was made in 1991 as a promotional item for A&W’s retail products, including their soft drinks sold in grocery stores and similar locations. It features a large pumpkin face on one side and Linus and Snoopy in the Pumpkin Patch along with the A&W logo on the other side.
Inflatables like this Great Pumpkin are always exciting collectibles because many promotional items do not survive over the years. This one includes some great details, including a partially inflated stem, a pumpkin leaf, and a hole in the stem that allows it to be hung up. After spending about 30 minutes inflating this giant pumpkin, it was amazing to see the full size of the display piece. Keeping vintage inflatables in good condition can be a challenge because they are prone to punctures, leaks, and damage, so finding one that is still usable is a special addition to a Peanuts collection.
The Great Pumpkin inflatable is a great example of the unique ways Peanuts characters have been used in promotional merchandise over the years. A&W created several Peanuts-related items, and these large displays are especially interesting because they were meant to attract attention rather than become long-term collectibles. While adding more pumpkins to create a full Pumpkin Patch display would be fun, even one of these rare inflatables makes a memorable Halloween decoration for any Peanuts fan.
