Snoopy is on the hunt! Flying through the skies in his Sopwith Camel, the beagle is searching for his archnemesis, the Red Baron. With this 1969 Mattel playset, you can recreate Snoopy’s adventures as he flies over the doghouse and baseball diamond. The set even includes a collapsible plane for Snoopy to take off in. Plus, an insert that makes it look like Snoopy is walking gives the playset an extra special touch! “Curse you, Red Baron!” indeed.
The Mattel Snoopy Skediddler with Sopwith Camel is a fun example of the Peanuts toys released during the late 1960s. Made in 1969, this vintage Snoopy collectible is more than just a figure because it comes with its own carrying case and playset. When opened, the case transforms into a Snoopy-themed scene featuring his doghouse, dog dish, and a baseball diamond, creating a small world for Snoopy and his airplane adventures.
The Snoopy Skediddler set includes Snoopy dressed as a World War I Flying Ace with his Sopwith Camel airplane. The plane features a spinning propeller and connects to the playset, while Snoopy has a walking mechanism that allows him to move when the missing diddler piece is attached. Like many vintage vinyl toys from this era, the set can be delicate after more than 50 years, with small parts like the glasses, helmet, and walking mechanism often being the first pieces to disappear.
Mattel also released other Peanuts Skediddler figures, including Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, and a regular Snoopy version that came in individual boxes rather than the larger playset. Finding a complete Snoopy Skediddler with all of its accessories can be challenging, but even incomplete examples are interesting pieces of Peanuts toy history. For collectors who enjoy vintage Snoopy toys, character figures, and unique playsets, this 1969 Mattel release is a great piece to add to a Peanuts collection.
