Snoopy is heading to Africa to meet some zebras and giraffes. This vintage early 1980’s mug features Snoopy wearing a khaki outfit and pith helmet. Made by Determined Productions, this is one of the few items produced in this theme. Snoopy the Safari Explorer wouldn’t be a part of the Peanuts comic strip until 1995.
This Snoopy Safari mug from Determined Productions is an interesting example of the expanded Snoopy universe that developed in the 1980s. The mug features Snoopy dressed as a safari explorer, but this was not a character seen in the Peanuts comic strip, making it a unique design created specifically for merchandise. The artwork includes Snoopy’s safari outfit along with a detailed background, showing the creativity of the artists who developed new Snoopy themes beyond the original comic strip. The bottom of the mug includes the Determined Productions marking, along with a character copyright date that does not indicate when the item was made. As far as I know, there are only a few Snoopy Safari collectibles, including this mug and an Aviva pin, making it a fun piece for collectors interested in unusual Snoopy merchandise.
