Snoopy Mini Dolls Collection from Japan

Adorable tiny Snoopy plush dolls wearing costumes from Japan? It’s like you know me! I picked up a lot of six of these five-inch-tall Snoopy plush dolls from the “Snoopy Mini Doll Collection” and fell in love! I prepared myself for years of search for the other fifty dolls scattered across the globe so they could be a full collection again. But then I found the whole series for a great price and found out, it’s not just fifty Snoopy dolls. There are ten more dolls of various Peanuts characters in the full, boxed set.

There are ten volumes in the full Snoopy Mini Doll Collection, each volume coming in a book fold box containing six dolls, a Snoopy biography and an edition number sticker. Each volume had a theme for the five Snoopy dolls, plus one other Peanuts character doll. The themes were Snoopy personas, occupation, apparel, folk costume, and sports, with two volumes of each. The dolls were made by Determined Productions leading up to the Peanuts 50th Anniversary in 2000.

The dolls seem to have been available individually, as well as in the boxed collections. There seem to have been a couple different box styles for the individual dolls – the clear ones from my video and a blue cardstock version with a window. The plush Snoopy dolls are attached to the wooden pedestals and aren’t meant to be removed. The pedestal has a gold Snoopy sticker on it, or gold Peanuts sticker for the other characters. On the bottom of the pedestal, there is a sticker in Japanese that says “Snoopy Mini Doll Collection,” then a stock number, with the bottom line being an item number and model name.

Deep Dive into Snoopy Mini Dolls Collection from Japan

Snoopy Mini Dolls are a fun little piece of Peanuts collecting history, and this Japanese series from around 2000 has plenty of details to explore. The Snoopy Mini Doll series was planned as a 50-doll collection to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Peanuts. Each tiny Snoopy figure comes with a wooden pedestal and a detailed outfit, and the six dolls in the original lot that started my collection included costumes such as a police officer and musician. The packaging includes Japanese text, model numbers and names, along with a price of $16 on the back of the dolls shown in the video. The tiny clothing is surprisingly detailed, with separate jackets, shirts and pants, elastic waistbands, Velcro, drawstrings, fiber fill, little bags and even specially made spaces for Snoopy’s tail.

The complete Snoopy Mini Doll series is divided into 10 box sets, with six dolls in each set. The video goes through the different volumes and their themes, including the Folk Costume, Sports, Occupation, Persona and Apparel series. The dolls include Snoopy in costumes such as a firefighter, musician, police officer, mechanic, farmer, astronaut, Santa, graduate, cowboy, Arabian and Indian costumes, as well as sports outfits for football, skateboarding, baseball, golf, fishing, tennis, soccer, skiing and backpacking. There are also characters including Charlie Brown, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, Linus, Marcie, Spike, Olaf and Joe Cool. Some of the outfits have especially small details, like a saxophone with tiny beads for the keys and a mouthpiece, a farmer’s ear of corn and patch-covered overalls, Spike’s cactus, a scuba diver’s air tube, and Snoopy’s little umbrella and Hawaiian lei. The boxes also reveal series numbers and production numbers. Two-thousand sets were available in this series.

One interesting part of collecting these Snoopy Mini Dolls is figuring out exactly what each costume represents, since some of the names on the packaging are translated from Japanese. The dolls were made by Determined Productions, the same company associated with other Peanuts merchandise and ornaments that collectors may recognize. The series appears to have been primarily made for the Japanese market, and the packaging opens in the opposite direction from Western books. After starting with six dolls, collecting the full set of 50 Snoopy Mini Dolls became the goal, although finding all of the individual figures can take some searching. With 10 boxes, six dolls per box and a wide range of Peanuts characters and costumes, this is a particularly interesting collection for anyone looking for Japanese Snoopy collectibles or unusual vintage Peanuts merchandise.
