Snoopy Doghouse Bank with Box

Deep Dive into Snoopy Doghouse Bank with Box

The Snoopy Dog House bank is a classic piece of Peanuts memorabilia with an interesting connection to banking promotions. I recently found one of these banks with its original box, which is something that is rarely seen. This particular version was a Bank of America premium, likely given to customers when they opened a new account as a way to encourage saving coins. Having the original box helps identify the bank’s history, since the bank itself does not always make it obvious where it came from.

These Snoopy Dog House banks were made by Determined Productions and were produced in the 1970s and beyond. They were made from a composition material that can be prone to cracking, chips, and other damage over time. Finding one in good condition with the original stopper is a nice bonus. Many examples have yellowing, paint loss, sun damage, or other wear, but even well-loved versions are still popular with collectors. There are also smaller versions of the Snoopy Dog House bank that can be harder to find. While the size difference is subtle, measuring around 7 inches for the larger version and about 6 3/4 inches for the smaller one, experienced collectors can learn to spot the difference.

Dating Peanuts collectibles can sometimes be complicated because copyright dates do not always represent the manufacturing year. This Snoopy Dog House bank includes a 1970 date, which fits with the timeline of the item and is likely the production date or a related copyright. Other dates, such as 1958 and 1965, refer to Snoopy’s character copyrights rather than when the bank was made. Understanding these details can help collectors better identify their Peanuts items. Whether displayed as part of a collection or restored into a new look, the Snoopy Dog House bank remains a fun example of vintage Peanuts merchandise and the creative ways Snoopy appeared in everyday items.
