In this video, I’m taking a closer look at Aviva Peanuts pins, specifically the cloisonné pins that have become favorites among collectors. There are hundreds of different designs featuring Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang, and I share a fascinating promotional display that explains exactly how these colorful pins were made. The display includes a history of cloisonné, describing how thin metal strips, called cloisons, are used to create cells that are filled with enamel, fired, and polished to produce the finished jewelry.
As I explore the display, I uncover an unexpected surprise hidden behind the information sheet: a colorful promotional piece featuring the World’s Greatest Sports Hero jewelry series. It showcases a variety of Snoopy sports pins, including surfing, skiing, scuba diving, golf, tennis, hockey, baseball, football, bowling, jogging, and the Flying Ace. I also find what appears to be another point-of-sale display sheet, leading me to speculate that these pieces were originally sent to retailers to promote the Aviva jewelry line.
While the displays answer some questions about how Aviva cloisonné pins were manufactured, they also raise new ones about how these promotional materials were used and how many different versions may have been produced. I share my thoughts on their history and invite viewers to help fill in the gaps if they have additional information.
