Deep Dive into Five Finds for my Snoopy Collection

Today, I’m sharing five Peanuts finds from an antique hunting weekend, including vintage ornaments, mugs, clothing, lunchboxes, and a collectible that I hope to repair. My first stop was Volo Antique Mall in Volo, Illinois, where I found a 1982 Determined Productions Snoopy ornament. This little Snoopy still has his original paper tag, and the copyright information is a great reminder that Peanuts item dates can sometimes be confusing. This ornament is from 1982, not the copyright years often mistakenly used from the characters or television specials.

Some of my other finds included a Determined Productions Pardners mug featuring Snoopy and his Woodstock buddies, a unique vintage Peanuts sweatshirt with a puffy vinyl design, and a classic Snoopy lunchbox with the original thermos. The sweatshirt was especially exciting because vintage Peanuts clothing can be difficult to document, and this one has a design that appears to date from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The tag shows it was made in the USA from a cotton and polyester blend, and while the sweatshirt is a little oversized on Snoopy, it is still a fun and unusual piece of Peanuts clothing history. The lunchbox features Snoopy enjoying music with his boombox and skating with Lucy, Linus, and Woodstock, and it appears to be from the late 1980s or 1990s, likely made by Thermos.

The final find of the weekend was a Mother Goose: A See n’ Say Storybook by Mattel, which I picked up because it is essentially the same type of toy as my Peanuts Speak Up, Charlie Brown. My plan is to use this generic version as a way to learn how to repair the Peanuts version, since many vintage See n’ Says no longer work because the internal rubber components have deteriorated over time. With the help of some troubleshooting and possibly a little assistance, I hope to get the Peanuts version working again. These five finds show how much variety there is in vintage Peanuts collectibles, from toys and clothing to lunchboxes and holiday decorations.
