Get out the hot dogs! Bring on the burgers! It’s grilling time with Snoopy Joe Cool! This giant A&W can is not full of sweet, sweet root beer. Instead it’s a Peanuts A&W Root Beer tailgating grill from 1991. The grill features Snoopy Joe Cool in a chef’s hat grilling hamburgers on his grill beside a cooler of A&W root beer. On the reverse side, an A&W Root Beer logo. The grill mimics the consumer available, special edition root beer soda can from 1991.
The Snoopy A&W Root Beer grill is one of those Peanuts collectibles that looks like an ordinary item at first glance, but turns out to be something completely different. Designed to look like a giant 1990s A&W Root Beer can, this unusual collectible opens up to reveal a portable grill inside. The design matches the familiar A&W Root Beer can from the early 1990s, making it a fun combination of Peanuts, advertising, and novelty merchandise.
Opening the can reveals all of the parts needed for the grill, including the metal grilling surfaces, legs, and brackets. Since this particular grill did not come with instructions, figuring out exactly how the pieces fit together was part of the fun. It is a surprisingly heavy collectible, weighing around 15 pounds, and the size and construction make it much more than just a display piece. While it is technically a functional grill, this one will be staying in the collection rather than being used.
