It’s Spike, Spike, Spike and Giant Spike! The original Spike plush doll came in four sizes and was made by Determined Productions in the early 1980s. The baby 11″ plush is the easiest to find. However, his other sizes of 20″, 30″ and 60″ are much more difficult to add to your Peanuts collection. Plus, don’t miss my couch full of Snoopy and the gang and an appearance by my dog, Molly, with her very own Snoopy.
Today, I’m taking a look at my collection of Determined Productions Spike plush toys. Welcome to Grandma’s couch, which is currently covered in Snoopys and ready for a Spike comparison. These plushes were made in the late 1970s through the early 1980s and were part of the Snoopy’s Wardrobe line, which included plush characters like Snoopy, Belle, Spike, and Woodstock. The plush toys came in multiple sizes and had outfits available for some of the characters. In this video, I’m focusing on the different sizes of Spike and showing how they compare.
In a previous video, I looked at the smaller Determined Productions plushes, including the 11-inch Spike who came with his hat and collar. This time, I added the larger sizes to the collection, including a 20-inch Spike and a 30-inch Spike. The 20-inch Spike is in beautiful condition with his original hat and collar, while the 30-inch Spike was a great find despite missing an eye and his hat. Luckily, he still has his collar, which is one of the more difficult pieces to replace. I plan to make him a new hat, create a replacement eye, and add a new whisker using some yarn to help restore his original look.
The biggest Spike in my collection is the giant 60-inch Spike, who is sitting in a human-sized school desk for scale. Seeing the 11-inch, 20-inch, 30-inch, and 60-inch Spike plushes together really shows how many variations Determined Productions created. While the smallest Spike plushes had official outfits available, it is unclear whether larger Spike plushes ever had clothing made for them or if some of the shirts found today were custom-made. These vintage Spike plush toys are a fun part of Peanuts memorabilia history, and collecting the different sizes shows just how many unique versions of these characters were created.
