Oh what fun it would be to do this sculpting kit! This 1972 kit made by Mattel is, thankfully for me, uncompleted. Find out where I found this on the full Patreon post.
What I Love – Personally, I like to know the origins of things. People might find a suncatcher, an ornament, or a pillow and think it was available just as it is right now. However, there’s tons of Peanuts collectibles that probably started as craft kits. While a completed kit is never an immediate deal breaker for me, I do take into consideration a few factors. The skill level of the crafter or the ease of redoing an item versus the price. A high-priced, hot mess is not for me. A fairly price and decently made piece is perfection. Finally, you know if I can redo something and not pay a lot, I am ready for that challenge!
Now, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these Mattel Sculpt-Sure Kits made during my travels. The stay-soft clay that doesn’t dry out may mean many of these would become damaged and tossed out when past their prime. Plus, without the box, there might not be a way to identify what it is. This is definitely a collectible that needs its box to really be highly collectible, I feel. Finding just the un-sculpted figure without any box would certainly be a head scratcher for many dealers.
