Snoopy Record Player

Deep Dive into Snoopy Record Player

The Snoopy record player from Determined Productions is a unique piece of Peanuts merchandise from 1975. This collectible was made for the Montgomery Ward catalog and features Snoopy along with the rest of the Peanuts gang decorating the outside. The design includes Snoopy at the piano, along with characters like Lucy and Schroeder. What makes this item especially interesting is that it is not just a display piece, but an actual battery-powered record player hidden inside the case.

When the top is removed, the inside reveals the record player mechanism, including controls for 33 and 45 RPM records, a speaker, speed controls, and the record arm. The player takes four C batteries, and while the mechanics still move, this particular example does not fully play records. The record arm seems to need some adjustment, and it may require additional repairs or a new needle. According to the available information, the player was designed to start playing when the top was closed, although the exact mechanism that triggers this is still a mystery.

The Snoopy record player is a fun example of the creative Peanuts products produced during the 1970s. Collectors of vintage Snoopy toys, Determined Productions items, and Peanuts electronics will appreciate the combination of a classic character design with a functional toy. Finding one with the original box, manual, and working record player would be especially exciting, but even a non-working example like this one is an interesting piece of Peanuts history.
