Sometimes solving a Peanuts collectible mystery takes a little detective work, and this Snoopy fabric piece turned out to have a very interesting story. The mystery item was a thin cotton fabric cutout with blue lines that looked like it was designed to be sewn into a doll. After comparing it to another Snoopy item, the mystery was finally solved. It was part of a Bucilla Snoopy crib quilt kit, likely from the late 1970s or early 1980s.

The discovery started when a photo of a Snoopy baby quilt caught Caren’s attention. The design looked familiar, and after taking a closer look, the Snoopy from the quilt matched the fabric cutout that had been sitting unidentified in the collection. The Bucilla kit included the Snoopy piece to cut out and sew, embroidery floss, instructions, batting, and gingham fabric for the back of the quilt. The package also appears to include an “81” marking, which may point to a 1981 production date, although the exact date is not confirmed.

This Snoopy crib quilt kit is also a good example of why Peanuts collectors need to be careful when researching copyright dates. The 1958 date found on many Peanuts items refers to the copyright for Snoopy and the characters, not necessarily the year the collectible was made. Finding the original kit helped identify the mystery fabric piece and added another interesting vintage Peanuts craft item to the collection.
