Deep Dive into Peanuts Curler Bags

If you have ever stumbled across a vintage Peanuts bag with a drawstring and a piece of cardboard inside and wondered what on earth it was actually for, you are not alone! In my latest video, I took a close look at a few charming vintage Peanuts curler bags made by Simon Simple Originals. For a long time, I wasn’t entirely sure why these bags were constructed the way they were—until I acquired one that actually came complete with original hair curlers inside. My collection features a few distinct variations, including a 1966 bag showcasing Snoopy lounging on the grass with a cute felt head, yarn detail, and dimensional felt flowers, as well as a couple of 1972 versions that feature different graphics and fabric designs.

Each of these vintage Snoopy curler bags has its own unique charm and quirky details. One of the 1972 bags features a classic Lucy comic strip on the front where she’s jumping rope to a twist on the traditional rhyme (“rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief…”), accented with a faux-quilted rick-rack print at the top. Another favorite shows a delightful scene of Snoopy and Woodstock dancing together in a flower field. A surprisingly great feature on these early 1970s bags is their inner rubberized lining; despite their age, the lining on mine is still intact and hasn’t cracked or dried out over the decades, which is always a pleasant surprise with vintage vinyl and rubberized materials.

Like many mid-century Peanuts collectibles, these bags often need a little bit of TLC to stay looking their best. Over time, the delicate wool felt flowers can fall off or decay, and the stitching near the manufacturer tags tends to pull apart, so I am planning a few minor restoration projects to fix up the seams and hopefully source matching wool felt to recreate the missing floral details. I have always loved the whimsical design and odd details that Simon Simple Originals brought to their Peanuts merchandise line, especially their fabric tote and drawstring bags.
