Mystery Snoopy Plush from the Schulz Museum

Everyone overlooked this Snoopy at the Charles Schulz Museum sale during Beaglefest. However, I was intrigued. I managed to get him for $50, which worried me that I might be spending too much on this mystery. However, I had a reasonable idea of what he might be since he looked exactly like the Mr. T and Boy George dolls. If only I could hunt down some answers!

Research

After a lot of research, I believe he is a possible sample or prototype of the Boy George Snoopy that was released by Determined Productions in 1984. While this yellow jacket is a fun look for Snoopy, the details on the jacket would be difficult to achieve in manufacturing. This might have led to them changing the design, or moving to a more current to 1984 look of Boy George’s.

The most conclusive piece of evidence was the jacket worn by Boy George on Letterman in 1983.

The jacket on Letterman is definitely another take on the clothing worn in the Culture Club music video, “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya”, that Boy George was promoting in the Letterman clip.

Deep Dive into Mystery Snoopy Plush from the Schulz Museum

Today, I’m taking a closer look at a mysterious Snoopy doll that I found at Beaglefest. This Snoopy quickly became my find of the week because, while I know a few things about him, I still have a lot of questions. He appears to be from the 1980s and was made by Determined Productions, but I have been trying to figure out exactly who this Snoopy is supposed to be. The big mystery is the outfit, which makes me think he may have been modeled after a celebrity.

This Snoopy doll has a unique look with a hat, jacket, and pants with details like fake pockets and a fake fly. The clothing appears to be specially made for Snoopy, including the tail opening and Velcro details on the sleeves and jacket. After researching, I noticed he looks very similar to other celebrity-themed Snoopy dolls made by Determined Productions, including the Mr. T Snoopy and the Boy George Snoopy from Culture Club. The hat and jacket have many similarities to the Boy George doll, which led me to wonder if this mystery Snoopy could be another version of Boy George Snoopy or possibly a prototype that was never mass-produced.

After filming, I continued researching and found more clues by looking at Culture Club music videos and a 1983 Letterman appearance featuring Boy George. The yellow jacket on Snoopy has similarities to the jackets Boy George wore, including the patches and black zigzag details. While I don’t have definitive proof yet, the evidence points toward this Snoopy being connected to Boy George. It is possible this was a prototype, sample, or a version that was changed before production because the detailed jacket may have been too complicated or expensive to manufacture. For now, this Snoopy remains a fun Peanuts mystery, and I hope someone with more information about Determined Productions or this collectible can help solve it.
