This week’s find is Peanuts Hang-Ups Newspaper Posters from 1968. There are a variety of them available including this one depicting Charlie Brown contemplating Snoopy’s drool ball. “I know a spit-ball is illegal, but I wonder about a drool-ball?” Find out where I found them on the exclusive Patreon post.
Why I love these… They’re ephemera that does not stand the test of time. Peanuts Hang-Ups Newspaper Posters were used to sell newspapers via kids’ appetite for cheap posters of popular characters. They’re generally difficult to find, especially in mint condition. However, I think some condition issues just adds to the overall feel. These are in pretty wonderful condition, considering. I love the look of the newsprint. The weird coloration of the uneven ink. The layering of the multiple inks. The slight bleeding of the printing underneath adding texture to the piece. They’re not the perfection we expect from today’s printing, but it has a uniqueness that probably can’t be recreated today without specialized equipment.
