The new-to-me Peanuts Cruiser Turntable from Crosley arrived broken! The record spins, the needle finds it groove, but alas, the sound emitted was not loud enough for dancing to. Luckily, our resident fix-it guy, Allen, was ready with multi-meter in hand to find the solution. Was it the speakers? The circuit board? Wires coming loose during shipping? Fortunately, the real problem turned out to be an easy fix by exchanging the delicate “Record Player Cartridge” with a new one. Luckily, I had bought a set of new needles that included this extra part, so I had one on hand to swap.
If you are attempting this fix with the record player cartridge replacement, I recommend taking your time. Make sure you’re reconnecting the wires in the exact same way on the new cartridge as it was on the old. Plus, never pull by the wires! Also, watch yourself on the needle if it is still installed. Good luck!
Also, the new needle for the used turntable made it play this scratched up old record SO much better! I used to get so much skipping, but now that’s mostly solved. Highly recommend giving your used turntable a fresh needle.
Get the part I purchased, available on Amazon. Alternative brands are available, just make sure it is for your specific turntable model number.
