There’s nothing I love more than bringing a Christmas village to life! My village is on a large buffet with a mirrored back that was rescued from an old Bungalow house in Berwyn, Illinois. At about seven feet long, it’s the perfect setting for my village. The backdrop is deep blue with white snowflakes from the Peanuts “A Charlie Brown Christmas” fabric from Quilting Treasures. Next, I start with boxes to create layers for the houses to sit on. Then, I use quilt batting in layers with C9 christmas lights to give it a nice glowing snow look.
Setting the Peanuts Christmas scene
Now the fun really starts! Pull out the houses and find a place for them. I always start with the “hills” so I can make sure they’re secure before getting everything in place. Next, I place my character pieces. When choosing locations, I like to consider the context of the pieces in relation to the surrounding. Charlie Brown and Lucy nativity scene goes by the school for their upcoming Christmas pageant. Linus and Lucy are hurriedly bringing their packages home to the Van Pelt house. Snoopy and Woodstock are sitting outside Peppermint Patty’s Pet Palace, just waiting to see if someone will buy them a Christmas treat.
The last task is placing the trees. I love lots of trees in my villages. It really helps to tie the whole scene together. For inspiration, I drew from the tree lot in “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. I found some nice bright card stock that was just the jewel tones I needed. Since I needed a lot of trees, I decided to keep it simple with easy triangles cut partially down the center and interlocked together.
Finally, it’s time to enjoy the scenery. Put on some Vince Guaraldi, turn off the over head lights and bring the little village of the Peanuts gang to life! Enjoy!
