Snoopy & Woodstock Doghouse Musical Bank

Vintage 1970 Peanuts Snoopy Musical Doghouse Music Box **RESTORATION PROJECT** – $70. Find it on eBay (affiliate link).

Peanuts Musical Banks by Schmid are pretty cool! This example from 1971 shows Snoopy on an orange doghouse. When you push down on Snoopy’s tail, Woodstock pops out of the doghouse to take your coins and the music plays. However, this one is listed as a restoration project. Overall, the musical is in pretty decent condition, but has some missing paint on Snoopy’s tail. The biggest flaw – it’s not working. There’s a lot that could be wrong with it. Perhaps the musical was overwound or Snoopy’s tail isn’t hooked up correctly. Either way, it’s going to take a lot to fix! The mechanism is held on with screws on the side of Snoopy’s doghouse. The screws are painted over and removing them will most likely remove the paint from them. At the current price, I’m not sure if it’s really worth restoring.

How much is a Snoopy Musical Bank worth?

I think if it was working, I’d probably pay around $70-100 based on the current condition of the paint. In mint, unused and fully working condition, I would expect this to sell for around $150-200, maybe more at the right auction. Restoration on this piece would be a labor of love since the owner may not recover the cost of professional restoration.
