I paid $60 for this Peanuts Mystery Box from Stylin’ Boxes and this video is NOT sponsored. Inside is nine decent, yet pretty vanilla, Peanuts items. Sure, it probably lives up to its claim of “Savings Up To $20 Off Retail,” but I wouldn’t have bought any of these individually just for fun. Please share your perspective in the comments! Share your Stylin’ Boxes mystery box experience in the comments! I want to know if I’ve just collected too much Peanuts stuff.
Mystery Box Thoughts
If you know someone who’s a general Peanuts fan and is just getting started collecting, this might be a fun gift for them. However, for a seasoned collector like myself, I find it lacking in interesting items. There wasn’t anything that I recognized to make me say “Oh, I got one of those!” Conversely, there wasn’t anything out-of-the-ordinary in terms of design or type of item that would be novel in the world of Peanuts collectibles. They were all fairly standard items with standard Peanuts images. Since this box was marketed as, “fun”, “must-have”, and “one-of-a-kind” according to their product page, I guess I expected something more.
As research before I bought the box, I watched quite a few unboxings of Stylin’ Boxes on Youtube. I specifically watched ones that were not sponsored and made my own evaluation of what others were getting. There seemed to be an item-type theme through all the boxes I watched. Belts, socks, bags, mugs, lanyards, notebooks, small plushies and figurines seemed to be pretty standard. The contents also seemed to be from a variety of companies I had heard of. I felt pretty confident that what I would get would be something I probably wouldn’t buy myself, but would be delighted to receive and experience. Instead, it was items I don’t remember seeing (and I’m CONSTANTLY looking) from one single brand I hadn’t heard of. I guess it TRULY was a mystery box, at least!
I also suspect the product page was written by AI. Chat GPT LOVES using the word “Whimsical” for Peanuts. There are other tells in this text that I recognize, as well. After 20+ years of writing weekly copy to promote items in my shop, I use ChatGPT to help me write something fresh. AI loves reusing the same phrases and adjectives again and again, which is exactly the rut I was trying to get out of. It also likes to oversell, which is why a human is needed for the final pass and maintain customer expectations. I did have my suspicions before buying, so I guess that’s on me.
Stories I’m telling myself
I’ve tried to find more of these items online. The ONLY Peanuts items from Pyramid America I can seem to find is the mugs. Were the other items ever available to the public? Did a big order fall through and this was the best way to move the merchandise? Delayed for a fulfillment contract due to supply chain issues. Perhaps made exclusively for these boxes. Maybe this was supposed to be a sample pack for potential retail locations. I’m just spitting out scenarios to justify whatever this is. The more realistic scenario is these were never available online and only in local stores. Or perhaps they were online in 2023, I saw them, and promptly forgot them. Somebody, let me know what’s going on.
