While I might be looking to put some Peanuts items in my garden, I’m going to pass on this Charlie Brown Seesaw. Find out where I found it on the full Patreon post.
What I Love – A mystery! Yet again. Is this a licensed item? I suspect it’s not licensed. Is this a one-of-a-kind item? No! There’s was a fully restored version available at Obnoxious Antiques of New Jersey. There was also this sighting in West Virginia on Imgur. So, there are at least three in existence.
After some trial and error internet sleuthing, I found the West Virginia teeter-totter! The one picture showed what appeared to be a pool, so it helped in tracking down the correct apartment complex. Charlie Brown has been oddly repainted since the Imgur post.
Charlie Brown is made of fiberglass. That helps explain why he’s so well detailed. It would be a lot simpler to just create a round dome and a stencil to recreate the Charlie Brown look. However, this was made to give some dimension to Charlie Brown and make the face come alive. Plus, it’s easier to repaint years later with raised area for his eyes, hair and mouth.
Overall, this piece looks to be in great shape. There aren’t too many apparent problems with the fiberglass heads. I’m not sure how easy it is to fix fiberglass, and I’m not planning on finding out! The overall color is great, probably because it was covered during winter. The metal also appears to be in decent shape.
The eBay ad mentions “Mother Hubbard” as its original location. Not sure what that is. If anyone is more social or investigative and wants to look into that, let me know what you find out. My best guess is some sort of daycare.
