Can you 3-D print Peanuts memorabilia? Yes! It would have been a lot cheaper to buy a Snoopy doghouse bank. My partner, Allen, treated himself to the Creality CR-10 V2 3D Printer (affiliate link). I provided some PETG material to print out this mini masterpiece.
To create the doghouse, it was fairly easy. Basically, a 3-D printer uses a spool of filament material and melts it to form the model you want. It moves back and forth, like an inkjet printer, building up the layers one by one. You can create your own model in software, but it’s much quicker to use someone else’s model like I did for this project. Many people share them online for personal use and creating “remixes” with modifications for different uses. You can find the plans I used at Thingiverse by user DiegoCosta. If you’re looking to make your own, maybe consider this version of a 3-D printed Snoopy bank with a plug in the bottom for removing the coins.
Why 3-D print? If it’s the sort of hobby you’re looking for, there are endless possibilities. Snoopy and his doghouse can be any color you want in a variety of materials. You can modify the model to be larger, smaller or used for a different purpose. Make it into a birdhouse, a mailbox, a pencil cup! You’re only limited by your imagination and knowledge of 3-D modeling software. However, there’s plenty of ways to get started for free in 3-D modeling if you’re looking for a new creative outlet.
