Linus and Snoopy Anri Musical Restoration

After twenty years in storage, Linus and Snoopy once again get their time to shine. You can see the unveiling of this Anri Musical, along with many others, in our unboxing video. After testing, not only did this musical need some cleaning, but also the musical mechanism needed help.

Restoration Process

My first task was getting the musical cleaned up. Using just cotton buds and plain water, I was able to get the dust off the musical. For the tiny crevices on Linus and Snoopy, I used a toothpick with cotton spun around it. Since the base is wood, I cleaned with the grain to ensure that it would come out clean and be easy to work on. Once the cotton buds were coming out clean and no signs of cloudy dust were showing, it was time to move on. The transformation of the dull figures to their original sheen is beautiful.

Once Linus and Snoopy were cleaned up, it was on to getting the musical working again. The base was fairly easy to open since it is held on by just two screws. With the musical out, I was able to determine that the mechanism was a bit seized up and would need some slow and careful work to get it spinning again. I carefully added WD-40 with a toothpick to the joints by the fan to help remove any debris or build-up that is causing too much friction. After much patience and fan spinning, the musical finally started turning without help. Once again this Anri musical was playing “Please Release Me”.

Overall, this restoration took me about one and a half hours. While time consuming, I feel that these pieces need the love and attention that can really bring them back to their original condition. In future, I hope to do more videos like this, so let me know in the video comments your feedback. Enjoy more music in our Peanuts Musicals & Music Box gallery.
