Avon produced Peanuts-themed products in the late 1960’s through the early 1970’s, with some smaller revivals through the years. The early products consisted entirely of hygiene-related products such as soap, shampoo, bubble bath, aftershave and brushes. These were generally figural representations of the Peanuts characters made of molded plastic to dispense liquid soap or hold bar soaps. In the early 1990’s, Avon released a few Peanuts jewelry items, decor and sunscreens.
The earliest period of Avon products is the most collectible. The bottles came in a variety of characters including Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and Schroeder. The colorful boxes with sayings like “Happiness is… a whole tub full of bubbles” make them appealing to collectors. Serious collectors should consider only buying items with a very good to mint condition box. Completeness is also an important factor as bottle caps and bar soaps can be lost over time. Most bottles also had a paper label on the bottom, which generally gets lost or wrinkled from use. However, if your bottle is missing its smelly, old 1970’s aftershave, thank your lucky stars! Be careful of storing liquids in your collection and keep them in a ziploc bag and separate from their boxes if possible. Prices for Avon items can vary. Depending on rareness, condition and completeness, expect to pay between $10-$30 for a boxed Avon item from the 1960-70’s in very good to mint condition.
