From NASA.gov, “In 1968, Snoopy was chosen as an official symbol of merit for America’s Space Program and to this day, the Silver Snoopy is awarded to NASA employees who demonstrate excellence in their work. Through the decades, the connections between Peanuts and NASA have remained rich. In fact, the Apollo 10 command and lunar modules were named after Charlie Brown and the lovable beagle.”
Snoopy is part of NASA’s picture of the day celebrating NASA’s 50th Anniversary. The image is available as a wonderful desktop image. Also, check out the kids club gallery for more photos from 1968.
