I remember getting some of these in the early 1990’s. The local gas station had a magnetic blue cardboard stand with bunches of these magnets on it, just by the checkout. Magnetic Collectibles released tons of different designs through the 1990’s. Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day and Halloween designs were available with seasonal greetings on them. Tour the United States and you might find a Snoopy magnet for states, major cities and tourist destinations. You might even be lucky enough to find a magnet personalized with your name on it (with a name like ‘Caren’, I know I won’t!) Most common were these basic character magnets featuring many versions of Snoopy along with Woodstock, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Pigpen and Sally. Though I have most of these, I would love to have a Pigpen in my collection. I would pay around $3-5 for one in mint condition, maybe a little more for a favorite character or a fabulous tourism version.

Don’t confuse these with their older cousins! Simon Simple and Rival released similarly produced magnets in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s. They are all a flat piece of black magnet with raised outlines with painted features. The older magnets are easy to distinguish because they are much plainer and have a flat, non-shiny surface. They are always two colors, a base color and another color for the raised areas. The Magnetic Collectibles versions always have the copyright info molded into the design of the magnet. The older versions might be worth more to some collectors, so making the distinction is important.
