1984 – You’re So Smart Snoopy Book By Charles Schulz – Hardcover – RARE – $45. Find it on eBay (affiliate link).
I remember going to my library as a kid to check out books just like this. Before my extensive, personal library of Peanuts books was built, this was one of the few ways I could get new reading material. There’s nothing quite like an old library book.
“You’re so smart, Snoopy” started out like any other Peanuts book. Once it was selected for city-wide reading material, it went through a special process of being rebound as a hardcover book. The library wants this book to last a long time, and as everyone knows, paperback books get a lot of abuse and just don’t last being read by hundreds of people.
How much is a Peanuts Comic Library Book worth?
Finding old library Peanuts books is rare. I only have a few in my collection. The real question is “Does this rarity appeal to Peanuts collectors?” Personally, no. Perhaps if it was a personal connection to my old library, I would spend a few extra dollars for the memory. If you were to buy this same book in mint, unused condition, it wouldn’t cost more than $10. If you have a different perspective on old library books, please let me know at info@collectpeanuts.com.
This Peanuts book brings to mind this quote from Charlie Brown about Pigpen, “Don’t think of it as dust. Think of it as maybe the soil of some great past civilization. Maybe the soil of ancient Babylon. It staggers the imagination. He may be carrying soil that was trod upon by Solomon, or even Nebuchudnezzar.”
